Nwamaka Eneanya, MD, MPH, FASN is currently an attending nephrologist and Assistant Professor of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania. Prior to this position, she was a nephrologist at Massachusetts General Hospital and an Assistant Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School. Dr. Eneanya completed her nephrology training at the combined Nephrology Fellowship Program at Massachusetts General Hospital/ Brigham and Women’s Hospital and residency in internal medicine at Brigham and Women’s Hospital. She holds an undergraduate degree from Cornell University, medical degree from Meharry Medical College, and master’s degree in public health from the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health.
Dr. Eneanya is a clinical investigator with research interests that center on palliative care, informed decision-making and health equity among patients with advanced chronic kidney disease and end-stage kidney disease. Her work has been generously supported by the National Institutes of Health and the American Society of Nephrology. She has received national and international recognition for her research and clinical expertise and her work has been featured in prestigious journals and media outlets such as the New England Journal of Medicine, JAMA, and NPR – Weekend Edition. In 2018, she was the recipient of the Provost’s Faculty Opportunity Fund at the University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Eneanya is also passionate about promoting diversity within academia as well as pursuing educational and outreach opportunities through broadcast, print and social media.
