Dr. Brewer is an advanced cardiovascular diseases fellow at the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine in Rochester, MN, and a former trainee of the Johns Hopkins Center to Eliminate Cardiovascular Health Disparities in Baltimore, MD. She has clinical interests in preventive cardiology and research interests in cardiovascular disease risk factor modification in minority populations and community-based participatory research interventions. She graduated magna cum laude with a bachelor of science in chemical engineering from Howard University in Washington, DC. Subsequently, she spent one year as a post-baccalaureate research fellow at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in Bethesda, MD prior to matriculating as a medical student at the George Washington University School of Medicine. She pursued public health studies at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health in Baltimore, MD prior to her last year of medical school. She completed residency training in Internal Medicine at Johns Hopkins University. She has been recognized by the American Medical Association as a Physician of Tomorrow and by the American Heart Association as a Women in Cardiology Trainee of Excellence. She was recently awarded the 2015 Dr. Jay Brown Best Research Abstract award by the Association of Black Cardiologists, Incorporated for her cardiovascular disease prevention intervention in African-American churches in Rochester, MN. She was recently awarded a highly competitive, NIH Mentored Career Development K award to expand her work as a clinical investigator and will begin a faculty position as a cardiologist within the Division of Cardiovascular Diseases at Mayo Clinic this summer.
