Michael G. Knight, MD, is an Internal Medicine physician and Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Clinical Scholar at the University of Pennsylvania, and currently serves as the founder and president of the Renewing Health Foundation. Originally from New York City, he completed undergraduate studies at Oakwood University, and attended the Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine of Case Western Reserve University. He then completed residency training at NewYork Presbyterian – Weill Cornell Medical Center. Throughout his early career, he has been instrumental in developing programs designed to impact the health needs of underserved communities on issues including HIV/AIDS, chronic diseases, and breast cancer. Knight served as the 48th National President of the Student National Medical Association, and currently leads the Renewing Health Foundation, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization working to educate and empower urban minority communities through health education. Knight has served in various leadership roles in organizations such as the National Medical Association, as Post-Graduate Trustee, and the American Medical Association Residents and Fellows Section. Knight currently practices clinically at the Crescenz VA Medical Center in Philadelphia, PA, with a special focus in Obesity Medicine. As a fellow of the Leonard Davis Institute of Health Economics and Masters of Health Policy Research candidate at the University of Pennsylvania, Knight leads research surrounding the utilization of clinical process improvement to optimize patient outcomes. He plans to continue to lead a multifaceted career combining a clinical focus in Obesity Medicine, administrative roles in health system quality improvement, and nonprofit leadership in minority health promotion.
