Kasandra Scales MD MPH is an Obstetrician and Gynecologist with the MidAtlantic Permanente Medical Group. She pursued her Master of Public Health in Sociomedical Sciences with a concentration in Urbanism and Built Environment at Columbia University in New York City and attended Medical School at Upstate Medical University in Syracuse, NY. She has dedicated her career to improving the health of underserved populations through co-founding student lead organizations that address displaced and homeless populations, conducting qualitative research hypertension in African American populations along with translational research in diabetes in rural populations. Currently, she is a member of the Diversity Equity & Inclusion Workgroup for the American Congress of Obstetrics and Gynecology and the Regional Healthcare Disparities Workgroup in her medical group. She is also a member of Council on Patient Safety in Women's Health Care which aims to improve patient safety, promote equity, and drive culture change in women’s health care. Her work in clinical practice and health equity informs her advocacy work as Delegate with American Medical Association. She wanted to pursue a career in medicine to give back to the village that poured into her and she has been unwavering in her pursuits.
