Alana C. Nichols received a Bachelors degree in Marketing from Louisiana State University. Afterwards, she received her Juris Doctor from Georgia State University College of Law in Atlanta, GA where she remained to practice criminal defense and family law for five years. She is a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated. Alana was named the 2017-2018 Student National Medical Association (SNMA) Member of the Year for her pivotal role in her local chapter’s successes. In 2018, Alana was one of five women selected, nationwide, as a 2018 Links Scholar in Medicine for her demonstrated leadership ability and commitment to underserved populations. She was also named one of 23, “2018 Women to Watch” by the Birmingham Business Journal. In 2019, Alana received the Clinical Sciences Scholarship at the SNMA’s Annual Medical Education Conference. In 2019, Alana was named a 2019-2020 Selected Professions Fellow by the American Association of University Women, a NextGenBHM Honoree by the Birmingham Business Journal and was a Rose Duhon-Sells Scholarship recipient from the National Association for Multicultural Education for her research related to addressing the performance gap between minority and majority students on standardized exams. She was also selected as an A to Z Medical Excellence Scholarship recipient. Alana is currently applying to residency and intends to continue intentional efforts to diversify the healthcare profession and improve access to, and education surrounding, healthcare in vulnerable communities. Alana is a mother to her four-year old daughters, Addison and Elle, and wife to fellow attorney, Cpt Brandon Croom.
