Dr. Tiarney Ritchwood is on faculty in the Department of Family Medicine and Community Health at the Duke University School of Medicine, with a secondary appointment in the Duke Global Health Institute. Trained as a clinical psychologist, Dr. Ritchwood is a health equity researcher whose scholarly approach to research is interdisciplinary in nature and integrates behavioral and public health sciences. Her training and professional experiences have worked synergistically to inform her program of research, which centers on diversity science—the study of the psychological dimensions of intersectional social identities with respect to race, ethnicity, sex, gender, cultural identity, age, language, sexuality, and class. Specifically, Dr. Ritchwood employs community-based participatory research methods to advance health equity by leveraging social innovation and multisectoral partnerships to improve health outcomes and social conditions impacting underserved Black, Indigenous, People of Color (BIPOC), with a special emphasis on people of African descent in the Global South.
