Hermioni Amonoo

Dr. Amonoo is the Carol C. Nadelson, MD Distinguished Chair in Psychiatry at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital (BWH). She is a physician-scientist and clinician educator in the Departments of Psychiatry and Psychosocial Oncology and Palliative Care at BWH and the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute (DFCI). She is a graduate of Purdue University (summa cum laude), Harvard Medical School (MD), Harvard Kennedy School of Government (MPP), the Massachusetts General Hospital Adult Psychiatry Residency Training Program and the BWH/DFCI Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry/Psychosocial Oncology Fellowship Training Program. Her program of research aims to understand the well-being needs of vulnerable cancer populations to develop innovative and practical psychological and digital therapeutics for patients with cancer and their caregivers. Her research has been consistently funded by Harvard Medical School, the Harvard Catalyst, the Brigham and Women’s Hospital/Brigham Research Institute, the National Cancer Institute (NCI), National Institute of Health (NIH), the Oppenheimer Family Foundation, and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. Additionally, she has a longstanding commitment to championing diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice in academic medical environments especially pertaining to supporting trainees from underrepresented minority in medicine backgrounds. Her passion for education has also inspired her to engage in several scholarly projects in medical education and to pursue a wide variety of teaching endeavors and mentorship for college and medical students, residents, and physician assistants.
