Dr. Alexandra M. Sims is a pediatrician and health equity researcher in the Division of General and Community Pediatrics at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center (CCHMC). Dr. Sims joined the Division of General and Community Pediatrics at CCHMC in 2020 as an Assistant Professor, where she also serves as a Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Liaison (DEI) to the Department of Pediatrics, working to implement the institution’s DEI strategic plan. She is a primary care pediatrician and enjoys taking care of children of all ages and building continuity and relationships with families. Her research focuses on health equity and healthcare access for children with chronic diseases, including children with sickle cell disease. Dr. Sims is an NIH Loan Repayment Program Award Principal Investigator. She was recently awarded competitive funding through the KL2 Scholar’s Program, supported by the NIH’s National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences. Her work has been recognized in peer-reviewed publications, as well as local, regional and national awards and invited presentations. Dr. Sims graduated with a degree in Anthropology from George Mason University and completed medical school at the George Washington University with a focus on Community and Urban Health. She did her Pediatrics Residency at Children’s National Hospital in the Community Health Track, where she stayed for a Chief Residency year and a General Academic Pediatrics Fellowship. Her social science background, community health focus and experiences with patients and families ground her work.
