Assistant Professor
The Ohio State University College of Nursing

Dr. Timiya S. Nolan is an Assistant Professor at The Ohio State University (OSU) College of Nursing and Nurse Scientist at The OSU Comprehensive Cancer Center. She is a three-time graduate of the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Nursing (BSN-2008; MSN-2011; PhD-2016). She completed postdoctoral training in cancer prevention and health disparities at the OSU College of Nursing (2017). Dr. Nolan holds certification as an adult nurse practitioner and teacher of nursing.

Dr. Nolan is committed to being a catalyst to effect positive change in communities of color using a three-pronged approach to her work: research and scholarship, community engagement, and advocacy. She applies her clinical and community-based participatory research training to her National Cancer Institute-funded projects that are adapting and testing culturally-sensitive self-management interventions for African Americans who are managing chronic diseases (i.e., breast cancer and cardiovascular disease). In her pursuits, she has forged partnerships within the academy, community, and government agencies to host health promotion events and co-create research initiatives. In all spaces, Dr. Nolan advocates for the community to center the voices and needs of African American men and women, realizing that interventions can only be successful if the community is a part of every aspect of research and evidence translation. Her work has earned her awards and recognition as a National Institute of Health 2017 Future Research Leader, March of Dimes 2019 Nurse of the Year in Diversity Award, and Columbus Business First Class of 2020 40 Under 40 Honoree.

Dr. Nolan is an ardent servant and leader. Nationally, she serves on the Oncology Nursing Society’s Research Advisory Panel and is an editorial board member of Oncology Nursing Forum. She co-leads the research arm of the National African American Male Wellness Agency alongside Dr. Joshua Joseph. Regionally, Dr. Nolan serves as an elected-member of the Nominating Committee of the Midwest Nursing Research Society. Locally, she serves as president of the Columbus Chapter of the Oncology Nursing Society. Dr. Nolan is a member of the Population Health & Community Engagement Work Group of the OSU Anti-Racism Action Plan Action Committee. She is nurturing the nursing pipeline as the founding advisor of the Nursing Students of Color organization at OSU. Lastly, Dr. Nolan is a proud member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated.
