Camila M. Mateo, MD, MPH, is a primary care pediatrician at Martha Eliot at Boston Children’s Hospital who focuses her work on the care of underserved children. She obtained her Bachelor’s in Health Science from the University of Florida. She then obtained her MD at the Columbia College of Physicians and Surgeons. After graduation, she completed her pediatric residency and a chief resident year at the Boston Combined Residency Program at Boston Children’s Hospital and Boston Medical Center where she was a part of the Urban Health and Advocacy Track. Following this she completed the Harvard-wide Pediatric Health Services Fellowship and obtained her MPH at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. Throughout her career she has worked to improve systems and structures to better promote health equity, including improving diversity efforts within the Boston Combined Residency Program and creating antiracism and health equity curricula for health professions trainees and faculty. At Harvard Medical School she is a faculty advisor in the Office of Recruitment and Multicultural Affairs and the Morgan-Zinsser Associate Director of Faculty Development in Inclusive Teaching and Antiracism. Her medical education work focuses on antiracism, health equity, and diversity and inclusion throughout health professions learning environment. She also serves as the Diversity Officer for the Boston Combined Residency Program and is a faculty member at the Center for Health Equity Education and Advocacy at Cambridge Health Alliance where she co-created and co-leads a longitudinal faculty development course on addressing racism in medicine.
