Mitchellville, MD native Aubrey J. Grant is a medical fellow in the department of Cardiovascular Disease at Georgetown University and Medstar Heart and Vascular Institute in Washington DC. Aubrey attended Davidson College, where he obtained his Bachelor of Arts in Sociology while also being a member of the Division I soccer program. As an undergraduate student, he traveled to Nairobi, Kenya to pursue a medical internship that provided care to rural communities. After graduation, Aubrey worked for the non-government organization, Grassroot Soccer where he provided HIV/AIDS awareness and education to the local inhabitants of Johannesburg, South Africa. Aubrey then gained acceptance to Meharry Medical College. After graduating cum laude, he then completed the Internal Medicine Residency Program at Emory University.
Dr. Grant is a clinician, educator, and researcher with a passion for health equity, mentorship, and promoting diversity in medicine. He has published research investigating disparities in heart transplant as well as the effects of food desserts on cardiovascular risk. Furthermore, he is the founder and chief medical officer of Equity Commons, an innovation company that plans to end implicit bias. Equity Commons leverages virtual reality technology to train clinicians on the pervasiveness of bias and its impact on health disparities. He has garnered notoriety through the American College of Cardiology as well as the American Heart Association for his passion on health disparities. Following completion of his fellowship, he plans for further subspecialty training in advanced cardiovascular imaging and sports cardiology at Harvard University/Mass General Hospital.
Outside of his work, Dr. Grant has also created a healthy food blog entitled “The Doctor’s Orders”, http://www.thedoctorsorder.com/, a platform where he has published healthy food recipes to increase nutritional awareness in his community.
