Disha is a public servant dedicated to reducing health disparities in the U.S. and abroad. She is a Senior Legislative Assistant in the U.S. House of Representatives for Congressman and House Democratic Caucus Chair Hakeem Jeffries, whom she advises on health and foreign policy. In the House she has championed efforts to lower prescription drug costs, protect safety-net hospitals, and expand obesity prevention programs to more neighborhoods. Previously, she was a Legislative Correspondent for former U.S. Senator Bill Nelson, for whom she advanced domestic and global health policy and programs, including those pertaining to Zika control, Department of Defense ALS research, and hurricane relief. She also served as a Paralegal at the U.S. Department of Justice’s Antitrust Division. An immigrant from India and the granddaughter of refugees, Disha was born in Kolkata and raised in California. She received her bachelor’s degree, as well as her foundation for organizing and activism, at the University of California, Berkeley.
