Janelle Gillings currently serves as Director of Federal Policy and Government Relations at Merck, where she works to improve patient access to innovative medications. Janelle is responsible for providing leadership, direction, and coordination of various federal public policy initiatives and advocacy related to Merck’s business interests. Prior to joining Merck, Janelle worked at UCB, where she monitored, analyzed, and prioritized key legislative and executive branch/regulatory activities and policy issues that have short and long-term impacts on UCB and the biopharmaceutical industry. As Lead Health Policy Analyst at MITRE, Janelle provided health policy thought leadership to the Centers for Medicaid and Medicare (CMS). Janelle has also worked at WellCare Health Plans, where she served as the Medicaid, Pharmacy, and Payment Reform Public Policy Lead by supporting the strategic development of policy analysis across state and federal legislative and regulatory issues. Janelle began her career in public health in working for associations that support local and state health departments. Janelle received her Master of Public Health degree in Health Policy from the George Washington University, and holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Anthropology and Human Biology from Emory University.
