Charles E. Thompson III, MD is Founder/Owner/Chief Surgeon and CEO of Clarity Surgical and Weight Loss Solutions, Huntington Station, NY. He is also Co-Founder and CEO, Clarity Practice Management Associates. Since 2013, Dr. Thompson has been working to serve the NYC Metropolitan Area and Long Island Communities to address health disparities by lending his expertise to alleviating a major causative factor of health disparities - obesity. African Americans have the highest rates of obesity in this country, when compared to other races. These conditions lead to high blood pressure, high levels of cholesterol, diabetes- all risk factors for heart disease and stroke. Thus, reducing rates of obesity can lead to reducing the number one and number four killers of African Americans, heart disease and stroke, respectively. With the goal of surgical entrepreneurship, immediately after completing his fellowship in bariatric surgery, he joined Long Island Laparoscopic Doctors in East Setauket, NY as a weight loss (bariatric) surgeon. At this time, he also earned an MBA from NYU. Following completion of his MBA, he established his own bariatric practice, Clarity Surgical and Weight Loss Solutions in Huntington Station, NY. Additionally, Dr. Thompson has served as Clinical Assistant Professor at the New York College of Osteopathic Medicine and Co-Founder and Chair, Board of Directors, Clarity Community Outreach (CCO). CCO is a nonprofit, established during the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic, when the need for community outreach was heightened. Its mission is to increase the general physical and mental well-being of the communities of Long Island and the five boroughs of New York City, with priority given to the education of members of low-income communities. Additionally, those communities which have been historically underserved and misrepresented are the main focus for working to alleviate health disparities and increasing health literacy. Currently, Dr. Thompson is an ongoing invited speaker on radio and TV programs to address the Covid-19 pandemic. More recently, he appeared in a CBS documentary where he received the vaccine and encouraged others to do the same. His energies and passion have no boundaries when using his skills to improve the human condition, skills that so many helped him build. As such, he realizes the importance of sharing his successes and helping others. Indeed, Dr. Thompson is an outstanding role model for aspiring young African Americans who seek advanced educational and entrepreneurial opportunities. Dr. Thompson is married to Morgan Petty Thompson, also a Howard alumna, and who practices as a physician assistant. Simultaneously, they are able to strategically support each other in a unique way to succeed in their professional and civic pursuits. They are the proud and devoted parents of their 6-year-old son, Grant, and their 3-year-old twin daughters, Madison and Kennedy. Dr. Thompson earned the BS degree from Morehouse College in Atlanta, GA and the MD from The Howard University College of Medicine. He completed his residency in surgery at Howard University and a Fellowship in bariatric surgery at the Cleveland Clinic, FL. In addition, he earned an MBA at New York University’s Stern School of Business.
