Robert Trevino is a MD/ PhD Candidate at Rush University. Originally from Northwest Indiana, he earned a BA in Human Biology from Stanford University. After college, he taught middle school science in Bronx, NY and earned a MS in Adolescent Education from Pace University. In medical school, he has been highly active with community outreach and volunteering with various student-led clinics through the Rush Community Service Initiatives Program. His academic interests include medical education, ranging from curriculum design to faculty development in teaching skills, and addressing health disparities for underserved populations, focusing on the intersection of health and education. He is deeply involved at the local and the national levels with pipeline programming and mentorship for preK-12th grade students with interests in STEM and health professions through the Student National Medical Association (SNMA) and Latino Medical Student Association (LMSA). With a local pipeline program he developed, over 300 minority high school students from the South and West sides of Chicago have participated, with the first cohort beginning to think about professional school. He has also served as mentor and research assistant for multiple tours through the Tour for Diversity in Medicine. His PhD research focuses on developing an in vitro model of joint motion utilizing a cartilage-on-cartilage articulating interface. His research has been presented at national and international conferences with multiple publications in the works. He plans to continue his role as a clinician, researcher, educator, and mentor as he investigates the inequalities that plague both health and education.
