Raquel Ramos, PhD, MSN, MBA, FNP-BC is a postdoctoral research fellow in Self and Family Management at the Yale University School of Nursing. Her training and research experiences are directly related to her passion for serving health disparate communities of persons living with HIV (PLWH). It was Dr. Ramos’ goal to continue working directly with minority communities and develop, design, and conduct innovative interventional research to eliminate the disproportionate burden of disparities among minority PLWH. Her dissertation research was two-fold and targeted PLWH and factors that influenced their consent to electronically share medical records with healthcare providers. Her dissertation also investigated how patient participation can influence the design of interactive, technological ways to convey concepts of electronic sharing in a comprehensible format. Her ultimate goal was for PLWH to make more informed decisions about their health. Specifically, her research focuses on patient participation and the integration of technology and how it can improve materials that address literacy and numeracy disparities among patients. Her objective is to continue providing significant contributions to research that focuses on eliminating health disparities and achieving health equity for minority PLWH. Dr. Ramos earned her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from Purdue University and her research doctorate from Columbia University.
