Dr. Priscilla Mpasi is a second-year Fellow in the National Clinician Scholars Program at the University of Pennsylvania Perelman School of Medicine. Her research interests include Medicaid network adequacy and state implementation of EPSDT benefits as well as child development and early childhood education. She additionally wants to focus on educational preparation and leadership development for minority physicians as a mechanism to promote diversity in the medical field.
Raised in Silver Spring, MD she aspired to become a pediatrician at an early age. She developed an interest in child health advocacy in medical school and has extensive involvement in both community engagement and legislative affairs in residency. Her advocacy experience includes community-based participatory research projects, organization of school-centered events with focus on childhood literary and leadership positions that include participation on the Children’s Hospital of Richmond Advocacy Committee and several national executive leadership positions in the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) Section on Pediatric Trainees. She was recently selected for the AAP Young Physicians Leadership Alliance and is a current member of the Council on Community Pediatrics. In the Student National Medical Association, Dr. Mpasi served as National Vice-President in the 50th administration and currently serves as Director of the L.E.A.D. Initiative. She has received numerous awards, including the AMA Physicians of Tomorrow Award, NMA Billie Wright Adams Scholar Award and the NAMME National Scholarship. She is a National Health Service Corp Scholar who desires to practice as a community pediatrician and become a national leader in health care delivery and health policy implementation with an emphasis on health outcomes in vulnerable pediatric populations.
Dr. Mpasi earned her B.S. in Psychology from Duke University and her M.D. from Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine. She completed her pediatrics residency at the University of Maryland Children’s Hospital with a certificate in Advocacy. She is currently pursuing a Masters in Science of Health Policy and Research from the University of Pennsylvania.
