Dr. Utibe R. Essien is an Assistant Professor of Medicine at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine and a Core Investigator in the Center for Health Equity Research and Promotion in the VA Pittsburgh Healthcare System. He is a practicing primary care physician who conducts research on racial and ethnic health disparities and social determinants of health. His specific focus is on disparities in the use of novel therapeutics and technologies in the management of chronic and cardiovascular diseases and understanding the mechanisms by which racial and ethnic differences exist in their uptake and diffusion.
