Amber Robins, MD, MBA

Amber Robins, MD, MBA, is a board certified family medicine doctor who is the 2017-2018 Health and Media fellow at Georgetown University School and Medicine/PBS NewsHour. Dr. Robins is a medical journalist who produces patient friendly medical resources. Her goal is to translate evidence based medicine in a way that the general public can understand and use. Dr. Robins has written for various media outlets including PBS NewsHour, HuffingtonPost, ABC News, BlackDoctor.org, KevinMD, The Journal for Minority Medical Students in her own column entitled “Diary of a Medical Student”, and 40z Rock Magazine. She has also done on-air appearances for the national PBS NewsHour and local CBS News in Rochester, NY, discussing the latest health news. Along with medical journalism, she has conducted several research studies that include gynecologic cancers, adolescent mothers, and minorities in medicine. Her latest study focuses on the experiences of minority women physician leaders in academic medicine.

Dr. Robins is originally from Louisiana where she attended Xavier University of Louisiana and graduated Magna Cum Laude as a Biology major and Chemistry minor. During her senior year of undergraduate, she was elected Miss Xavier University of Louisiana, 2009-2010. Dr. Robins later graduated from medical school with honors in medical education and humanities from the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry in 2014. During her last year in medical school, she held the role of medical student representative for the American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, District II.

While in family medicine residency in Rochester, NY, she was elected the 2016 Resident Representative for the Society of Teachers of Family Medicine’s board of directors and also became a contributing author for “First Aid for Family Medicine”, a board exam resource book for family physicians. In addition, she completed her Master’s of Business Administration in 2017 from Louisiana State University-Shreveport.

Throughout her journey, Dr. Robins’ continues her goal of motivating others to achieve their own personal successes. She is constantly reminded that dreams do come true with faith in God and hard work. Through her business, A. Robins Nest Media, she furthers her mission by coaching authors in self-publishing and through media training for health professionals.

Dr. Robins is the author of “The Write Prescription: Finding the ‘Right’ Spiritual Dosage to Overcome Any Obstacle” and the founder of the “Empower Now” minority professional book series. In May 2018, she will be launching her new book called “The Chronicles of Women in White Coats” along with 19 other female doctors in medicine and dentistry discussing their personal and professional experiences.
