Dr. Gupta is in his final year of fellowship in Pulmonary & Critical Care Medicine at Brigham & Women’s Hospital/Harvard Medical School. He is also a commissioned officer in the US Air Force Medical Corps, where he serves as a fully trained critical care air transport (CCATT) physician. His primary research interests are in the space of health security and pandemic preparedness, and he serves as the Director of the Global Health Diplomacy Initiative at the Harvard Global Health Institute. His research work has been published most recently in The New England Journal of Medicine, Lancet Global Health, BMJ, and Health Affairs.
Dr. Gupta is currently leading a multinational study investigating the capacities of health systems globally to contend with the outbreak of a future pandemic diseases. Though his research is globally focused, his work domestically has been community-oriented. Dr. Gupta has founded two health initiatives in service of our nation’s most vulnerable populations: the first is a latent tuberculosis treatment program targeted to treat homeless patients in Seattle and the second is a mobile food market program designed to address food insecurity in Eastern Massachusetts. The former program was profiled by the New England Journal in 2015; the latter program was profiled by Health Affairs in 2016; in combination, both initiatives have reached over 1000 patients.
Dr. Gupta received his BA from Princeton, his MD from Columbia University’s College of Physicians & Surgeons, an MSt in International Relations from the University of Cambridge (as a Rotary Global Grant scholar), and MPA from Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government (as a Dean’s Fellow, expected May ’17).
