Dr. Bignall is a clinical fellow in the Division of Nephrology and Hypertension, and a National Institutes of Health post-doctoral research fellow in the Center for Treatment Adherence and Self-Management at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center. He received a Bachelor of Science in Biology summa cum laude from Howard University, a Doctorate of Medicine from Meharry Medical College, and a Certificate in Health Policy at the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Center for Health Policy at Meharry. He is also a graduate of the pediatric residency program at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital.
Dr. Bignall seeks to address the impact of social determinants of health and health disparities on pediatric kidney disease and transplantation through clinical research and child health advocacy. He is the recipient of an American Academy of Pediatrics Community Access to Child Health research award, and is an alumnus Advocacy Scholar of the John E. Lewy Foundation and American Society of Pediatric Nephrology (ASPN). Dr. Bignall is a member of ASPN’s Public Policy Committee, where he is a voice for child health at all levels of government. He is an enthusiastic mentor, serving as a physician volunteer within Cincinnati Public Schools, and is involved in a variety of community health advocacy efforts, including the Amgen Health Equity Summit, Cradle Cincinnati’s infant mortality project, and the Cincinnati First Ladies’ Health Initiative. Dr. Bignall hopes that his career as a physician-scientist and advocate will help to narrow health disparities and improve outcomes in children and families from underserved and disadvantaged communities.
