About the Indexes

A unique aspect of the National Minority Quality Forum’s overall efforts to improve self-care, prevention, treatment, management, and monitoring has been the use of the Forum database to map health data in the United States. Forum indexes and atlases map disease incidence and prevalence, using zip-code-level data. These Web-based resources enable users to view and compare information graphically—nationwide, by state, by congressional district, and by state legislative district. The indexes and atlases provide focus and perspective for educational, advocacy, and public-affairs initiatives.The indexes and atlases are available to advocacy groups, policy makers, and sponsoring organizations through a password-protected link from the Forum website. They are updated periodically as new data become available.

Access

The indexes and atlases and the maps produced by the National Minority Quality Forum database are available for use by advocacy groups and similar nonprofit organizations and by policy makers (government employees; members of local and national judicial, executive, and legislative branches; and their aides).

The Forum allows use of the indexes and atlases through maintenance of password-protected links from its websites and restriction of access to authorized users only.

The National Minority Quality Forum and Sustainable Healthy Communities, LLC (SHC) are pleased to provide full public access to the Biden Cancer Community to the Cancer Atlas, co-developed by the Diverse Cancer Community Working Group, a partnership, inspired by the Cancer Moonshot. We feel that the real challenge lies not in debating whether disparities exist, but in the identification of the patients at most risk and developing and implementing local strategies to reduce and eliminate them.

The National Health Index (NHI), a wholly–owned subsidiary of the National Minority Quality Forum, provides demographic intelligence about chronic disease prevalence, costs, outcomes, and associated trends.

The U.S. HIV/AIDS Index is an important step in stemming the tide of the disease and enabling communities to understand the reality of the disease today. It allows users to focus on available HIV/AIDS statistics at the national, state, U.S. congressional disctrict and county levels, further segmented by age, gender and race/ethnicity.

The Cardiovascular Disease Index (CVD Index) provides interactive statistical information on CVD nationwide and at the regional, state, county, metropolitan, legislative-district, and zip-code levels, as well as by age, gender, and race/ethnicity. Users may create customized maps and graphs to support educational, advocacy, and public-affairs initiatives.

The National Minority Quality Forum has launched the Lead Risk Index to help health-care practitioners, policymakers, advocacy groups and industry gain a full understanding of childhood lead poisoning at the local level. Nationally, an estimated 750,000 children under age six have an elevated blood lead level of 5 micrograms per deciliter or above, the level that represents the CDC’s reference value for lead poisoning in children.

The Childhood Obesity Index is a navigational tool to maps of childhood obesity prevalence at the national, state, county, MSA, congressional and state legislative district and zip code levels, further segmented by race/ethnicity and gender.

U.S. Diabetes Index (USDI), published by the National Minority Quality Forum, provides critical intelligence about diabetes in the United States. Its mission is to reduce the incidence of the disease and improve health outcomes while encouraging the efficient management of health-care resources by providing actionable, community-specific information. Its audience includes providers, legislators, policy makers, researchers, news media, and manufacturers, purveyors, and purchasers of diabetes products and services.

The National Minority Quality Forum has developed the MRSA atlas to enable users to map MRSA prevalence based on the number of hospital discharges -- at the national, state, congressional and state legislative district level. The MRSA atlas can be used to raise awareness in high impact areas and tailor prevention and treatment efforts to that particular locale.
