Orriel Richardson is an attorney and health policy expert licensed to practice law in Maryland and Washington, DC. Orriel currently functions as health counsel for the Committee on Ways and Means Majority, U.S. House of Representatives, where she is on detail from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). At the Innovation Center at CMS, Orriel leads the work involving cross-cutting legal and program integrity issues for the models being tested. Previously, as an attorney with the District of Columbia’s Medicaid agency, Orriel advised the rates and reimbursement team that oversees $3 billion in annual provider payments.

Orriel is also a Professorial Lecturer of Health Policy and Management at the George Washington University Milken School of Public Health (MPH), Vice Chair for Membership of the Delivery Payment and Reform Affinity Group for the American Health Lawyers Association Regulation, Accreditation, and Payment Practice Group. She also serves as an at-large board member and Vice President of her Condominium Association in NE Washington, DC.

Before joining government service, Orriel worked full-time at GW University while attending law school in the evenings. She has also worked at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine Department of Anesthesiology and Critical Care Medicine; the State of Louisiana; and Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center. Orriel is proud Alumna of Howard University, received an MPH from Tulane University, a Juris Doctorate from The George Washington University, and also holds a graduate certificate in International Human Rights Law from New College, University of Oxford.

In her spare time, she enjoys practicing yoga, cooking, international travel, reading, singing, and playing piano.
